Our Story

“For the GRACE of God has APPEARED bringing salvation for all people…”

“When the goodness and lovingkindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy.”

Titus 2:11, 3:4-5

Scripture tells us that God’s amazing grace appeared to all people in the person of his son, Jesus.  Derived from the great truth that God loves his children, every one of them, the name Grace Appeared first resonated in our hearts in 2013. During this time, God was birthing in us a desire to help children, so we embarked upon our journey of fostering little ones. Now, seven years later, our passion is to multiply our efforts by linking arms with others in the community, in order to help both children and families who are in need. “Grace Appeared” makes this dream a reality.

Grace Appeared Founders, Rob and Kim Slingluff, moved their family to Hampton Roads, Virginia, in 2005. With a love for children, and a desire to make a difference for those in need, they serve as foster parents, actively caring for children through respite care, short-term / emergency care, and long-term foster care.

Raised in Orlando, Florida, as the 3rd of 4 children, Kim knew the unconditional love of a mother and father.  The value of family permeated her childhood and imparted a deep desire within her heart to be both a wife and mom.   After high school, she completed a bachelors degree in Interpersonal Communication from the University of Central Florida.  Upon graduation, she embarked upon a career in marketing and account management, ultimately landing her in Maryland where she soon met her future "Mother and Father-in-love".  Through their orchestration and the handiwork of God, Kim met and married the love of her life, Rob, in 2000.

Today, Kim is privileged to homeschool their five remarkable children and to care for their precious newborn foster daughter.  It is her passion to inspire, encourage, and support other individuals and families to open their hearts and homes to a child in need.   She is convinced that the sacrifices pale in comparison to the great joy and rewards found in offering selfless love to children.

Raised in Rockville, Maryland, Rob and his family cared for multiple foster children while he was growing up.  This wonderful experience cultivated his love for children and generated a passion within him to care for kids in the foster care system.  Additionally, he advocate for the protection of unborn children and the promotion of adoption.

Rob graduated from Penn State University with a B.S. in Marketing.  He then earned a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Non-Profit Management from Regent University.   The highlight of his life is being married to his wife, Kim, and raising their five amazing children.

Rob loves helping people in need and seeing kids thrive.  He likes to motivate others to realize that they can make a major difference in the lives of children, in big or small ways, simply by taking a step of faith and getting involved.

Dr. Marguerite Lengkeek, Treasurer of the Board

Dr. Marguerite Lengkeek is an Allergist and Immunologist in private practice in Virginia Beach. She is dual board-certified in allergy/immunology and general pediatrics. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology at the University of Virginia and a Doctor of Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

She also participated in multiple international mission trips to Guatemala, Venezuela, Thailand and Sri Lanka, which ultimately led to the pursuit of medicine.  She desires to share the peace, joy and love that she has found in Jesus Christ, and to encourage others to spread this love in practical ways.

She met her amazing husband, Jeff, in Rota, Spain, while both serving in the U.S. Navy.  They have three wonderful sons, and are actively involved in school and multiple sports activities. She loves music, travel and outdoor adventures with her family.
